NEW YORK, NY – Fans of authentic Andalusian tapas have found a new home. Earlier this year, renowned chef and restaurateur Jose Garces opened Amada—a 7,000 square foot, upscale Spanish tapas bar and restaurant at Brookfield Place, New York built by Shawmut in partnership with the Garces Group, Caseworks Architects, and AvroKO.

To convey the beauty and spirit of the Mediterranean coast, the project team installed an extensive millwork package that included leather wall panels, brass shelving, rusty steel shelving, and bronze mirrors that complement the open ceiling concept.

A highlight of the restaurant is the polished and sealed concrete tile flooring that offers a textured look in the contemporary space. In addition, the team remodeled the storefronts at both the main entry and the mall entry—no easy task due to the delivery and work restrictions at Brookfield Place. Logistical coordination and constant communication among all parties was essential to staying on schedule and to the overall project delivery.

The result is a space that not only lives up to the public’s already-high expectations for a James Beard award-winning chef’s restaurant, but exceeds it.
