DENVER, CO – Tiffany & Co. was set to open up a new store in Denver. But then the skies opened up.

When Tiffany & Co. was looking to upgrade to a larger space in Denver’s Cherry Creek Shopping Center, it knew Shawmut Design and Construction could make it happen. After all, Shawmut has been a proud partner of the iconic jeweler since 2006, building 21 retail locations to date. What Tiffany’s didn’t know was that the Denver area was about to experience one of the worst rain storms in years—just two months before the store was set to open.

The new 5,600 square foot features elegant and timeless design details, including a custom glass chandelier, high-end millwork from Singapore, a feature wall made of a zig-zag mirror, porcelain flooring from China, and a stunning granite storefront. Although many of the materials came from overseas and required complex coordination of owner vendors, nothing posed as much of a threat to the schedule as the potent mix of hail, rain, and wind that rolled into the Denver area—and right into the mall.

The interior was all but complete when the storm arrived. Hail immediately began to block the drains, causing water to rush into the mall and, sadly, into Tiffany’s new space. Cherry Creek’s management and Shawmut’s team helped to quickly dry out the store and allow work to resume, replacing the damaged drywall, repainting, and adding final design touches. The result is a Tiffany’s that sparkles as brightly as its famous diamonds.
