Nobu Hospitality’s Ryokan Collection will debut later this month with the Nobu Ryokan Malibu. Located beside the Nobu Restaurant Malibu, the lodging concept will blend the cool elegance of the California coastline, framing views of Carbon Beach and the Pacific Coast Highway. Studio PCH; Montalba Architects; TAL Studio; Shawmut Design and Construction; C.W. Eisner; and Nikita Khan have overhauled the former 1950s beach motel.

The two-story property features a teak, bronze, and limestone that recalls the minimalist aesthetics of traditional Japanese inns, while also embracing the laidback spirit of the location. Each of the 16 guestrooms will be individually designed and feature Japanese elements such as tatami mats, sand-hued limestone walls, and handcrafted teak soaking tubs.
