Group announces 20 new projects while adding 10 new team members

BOSTON, MA
—Shawmut announced today it is experiencing unprecedented growth within its hospitality division.

The group brought in over $180 million in revenue in 2013, a 30% growth increase from the previous year, and is close to reaching 50% growth over two years. The growth trend is expected to continue into 2014 with projected revenue topping $205 million, thanks in part to 20 new projects across the country. Additionally, Shawmut has added 10 new team members to the division, helping to build a solid foundation for the projected growth over the next coming years.

The hospitality team is currently working on an expansion of the prestigious Le Bernardin in New York, as well as renovating the luxury suites at the premier Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Building on its momentum in the Washington, D.C. market, the division is currently working on Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Chef Michael Schlow’s Tico. The team is also working on new locations for Shake Shack in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and Atlanta.

“Thanks to our team’s hard work, the division continues to grow at a rapid rate,” said Randy Shelly, vice president of Shawmut Design and Construction’s hospitality group. “With nearly 50% growth over the past two years, and the amount of projects in the pipeline for 2014, we see things continuing to trend up. To accommodate the surge we have made some key hires across all our major offices.”

Donald Bush and Karl Pfaff have been hired as project managers in the firm’s New York and Los Angeles offices respectively, while James Thompson was brought in as a senior project manager in Boston. Also in the Boston office, Alex Murphy was named senior estimator and James Dimarzio was elevated to project manager. Both have worked with high-profile clients such as Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, Nobu, and Haru Sushi.

Shawmut is widely regarded as the preferred builder for the world’s most popular and exclusive brands. In the past year, the hospitality division has worked with The New York Palace, Fenway Park, Chef Michel Richard, and Yard House to name a few. They most recently completed the installation of the infrastructure for Major League Baseball’s new instant replay system at all 30 ballparks nationwide.

“We at Shake Shack partner with Shawmut’s hospitality division because they are able to perform with predictability in the face of unpredictable circumstances. Presented with difficult site logistics or aggressive schedules, they maintain a singular focus on getting the job done,” said Lou DeAngelis, director of construction and facilities at Shake Shack.

Founded in Boston in 1982, Shawmut has grown to employ more than 900 people nationwide. As an ESOP (employee-owned) construction management firm, Shawmut delivers highly personalized client service for each project and has been honored on multiple occasions by the Boston Globe, Crain’s New York, Boston Business Journal, Providence Business News and others as a Best Place to Work. Over the past year, they were also named the Top Restaurant and Retail Construction firm by Building Design + Construction magazine.
