Boston, MA – November 15, 2007 – Shawmut Design and Construction, an $800 million national construction management firm, recently announced the appointment of Marvin Irby to the position of Chief Financial Officer. Irby joins Shawmut from Walt Disney World, where he served as Vice President of Finance, Global Support for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. His addition will further strengthen Shawmut’s operations and financial performance as the company continues to expand across the country.
As Chief Financial Officer for Shawmut, Irby will manage the company’s financial operations and oversee the Finance and Accounting departments. As a key member of Shawmut’s leadership team, Irby will enable company growth by focusing his efforts on tasks ranging from strategic planning to staff development. Irby’s years of experience in a senior financial position at Disney, another world-class, customer and service-focused company, uniquely qualify him for the job and make him a valuable addition to the Shawmut team.
At Walt Disney World, Irby was most recently responsible for overseeing financial functions for human resources, information technology and labor strategy and analysis. He initially joined Disney in 1998 as Controller, overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, financial planning, cash handling and internal controls, within a $5 billion business unit.
Prior to his tenure at Disney, Irby held finance positions Pepsico, Kraft General Foods and Proctor & Gamble. In these positions, Irby learned the immeasurable value of brand and people development, both fundamental to Shawmut’s continued success. In May 2007, Irby was named one of the “Top 50 Under 50” corporate executives by Diversity MBA Magazine.
“It is critical that Shawmut appoint a CFO with the knowledge and experience to capably manage diverse opportunities and guide financial growth. We have found that expertise in Marvin Irby,” said Shawmut’s CEO Thomas E. Goemaat. “Marvin is a strong leader and his Fortune 500 company experience will prove instrumental in Shawmut’s rapid evolution as a major force in the national construction marketplace.”
“Shawmut’s commitment to quality, client service, and people development have resulted in an amazing period of growth,” said Irby. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to join this remarkable and unique organization and help continue its growth into the future.”
Irby served on the Board of Directors for the Orlando Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants and has acted as an Executive Board Member and Treasurer for Heart of Florida United Way. He plans to remain involved in such philanthropic projects, as encouraged by Shawmut’s values. A native of Chicago, Irby received his Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University and his Master of Business Administration in Finance and Marketing from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
