Boston, MA – December 10, 2007 – Shawmut Design and Construction, a construction management firm headquartered in Boston (www.shawmut.com), recently announced the appointment of Gretchen McGill to the role of Project Executive within the Corporate Interiors group. As Project Executive, Gretchen will lead multiple projects and their teams, oversee the financials of each project, contribute to strategic business development, and act as the key owner liaison. She will be an integral part of ensuring client satisfaction and delivering projects on time and on budget.
Gretchen has a long history working on major corporate interior projects with both Boston Properties and Trammell Crow Company. She brings the owner’s experience and perspective to Shawmut and will be a key player in building and maintaining client relationships. Her proven capabilities working for major national property management firms, ensuring the highest level of quality, and meeting demands of corporate clients who are similar to Shawmut’s clientele, will be a great asset to the company.
Prior to joining Shawmut, Gretchen worked with the firm on 15 projects totaling approximately 270,000 square feet, most notably when working for Boston Properties as a Senior Construction Manager. Working from the owner’s side of projects, Gretchen saw firsthand Shawmut’s commitment to client service. With her extensive experience, she will be integral in growing Shawmut’s Corporate Interiors group in 2008.
“We worked with Gretchen in the field on major downtown projects for years and her ability to manage people, communicate with a wide array of construction managers, and get the job done was unparalleled by others,” said Frank Hayes, a Vice President at Shawmut. “We knew if we were working with her as the owner’s representative on a job, the project would run smoothly. Her fit with Shawmut and our culture was natural, and we’re pleased to finally have her on board with us.”
Gretchen has worked as the owner’s representative on Shawmut projects such as three First Marblehead Corporation projects totaling 77,000 square feet; a 15,000 square foot, eight week, tenant fit-out in an occupied building on Franklin Street for The Forum Corporation; and a 33,000 square foot tenant fit-out for Posternak, Blankstein & Lund, LLP in the Prudential Tower.
Gretchen received her B.A. in Economics from Boston University and holds a Certificate in Building and Construction Technology from Northeastern University and a Certificate in Environmental Management from Bentley College. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Emergency Management from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. She is a member of New England Women in Real Estate and the Boston Society of Architects.
