The New York Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group Bestowed Prestigious Honor
New York, NY – February 29, 2008 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), an $850 million, national general contracting and construction management firm, was named one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York for 2007 by the New York State Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group, an independent company managing Best Places to Work programs in many states around the country.
This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in New York, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Companies to Work for in New York list is made up of 30 companies split into two groups: 15 medium-sized companies (25-250 employees) and 15 large-sized companies (251 or more employees). Shawmut has been named one of the Best Companies for New York in the medium category.
To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
· Have at least 25 employees in the state of New York
· Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business
· Be a publicly or privately held business
· Have a facility in the state of New York; and
· Must be in business for a minimum of one year
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the winners. The first part evaluated each company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part of the evaluation measured employee experience and was weighted more strongly.
Shawmut will be recognized at the Best Companies award ceremony on April 10, 2008 in the state capitol of Albany.
In 2007, Shawmut ranked first among all large Massachusetts employers on the Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” list. Shawmut has been included on the list since 2004. Additionally, the company was named to Providence Business News’ “Best Places to Work” list in 2007 and 2006, and this year was named to the Training Top 125.
