Shawmut Named Third Best Company to Work for in New York

New York, NY – April 14, 2008 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a leading national construction management firm, was honored as one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York for 2007. At the awards ceremony in Albany on April 10 it was revealed that Shawmut had made the list at #3 in the small/ medium category, as well as the highest ranked firm from the architecture/engineering/construction industry. “This honor marks a high point for Shawmut in our continuation of employee growth, development, and support company-wide,” remarked Les Hiscoe, Vice President of Retail at Shawmut. “We’re thrilled that in New York our employees have validated our company culture and values and put us at the top of this esteemed list.” The New York State Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group, an independent company managing Best Places to Work programs in many states around the country, formed a partnership to launch the prestigious awards program in the state of New York. This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in New York, benefitting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Companies to Work for in New York list is made up of 30 companies split into two groups: 15 small/medium-sized companies (25-250 employees) and 15 large-sized companies (251 or more employees). Shawmut was named one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York in the small/medium-sized category. Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 30 Best Companies to Work for in New York. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workforce policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies in the final ranking. Shawmut opened their New York City office in 2004 to better serve their New York retail clients. The company has built a clientele spanning luxury and specialty retail, spa and health clubs, and hospitality. Major clients include Apple, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany's, Burberry, Town Sports International, Nobu, Starr Restaurant Organization, and The Lyons Group.
