New York, NY – June 5, 2008 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a leading national construction management firm, in collaboration with architect and designer Peter Marino, has completed renovations and additions to the new three-story, 9,200 square foot Ermenegildo Zegna flagship boutique at 663 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Symbolizing Ermenegildo Zegna’s commitment to the environment, Shawmut erected an elaborate metal and glass staircase in the center of the store, showcasing a nature mural which changes colors through a seasonal palette. That commitment is also evident in the use of sustainable raw materials throughout the project. A “nod to nature” is the congruent theme of the store, conceptualized through the colors of the various rooms. The space, which was previously occupied by Ermenegildo Zegna, first underwent structural demolition, and Shawmut carried the project to final turnover. Many of the vendors were contracted by the owner, and Shawmut coordinated the receiving and installation of the owner-supplied materials and labor. Staying true to Ermenegildo Zegna’s roots in the textile industry, most of the décor was designed to resemble a loom. Behind the 22 foot tall glass entryway which boasts 900 square feet of continuous glass, metal cables of stainless steel weave their way around the boutique, leading visitors to Stucco walls, built to reflect the characteristics of Ermenegildo Zegna’s signature Cashco fabric. All in all, Shawmut used 18 different types of plaster finishes. With the site situated below the offices for another high-end retailer, Shawmut had to exercise sensitivity to the occupants of the building, therefore all noisy work was completed early, to minimize disturbances. Shawmut demonstrated the highest standards of communication with the landlord and tenants to inform them of the construction schedule. About Shawmut Design and Construction |
