Boston, MA – June 18, 2008 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a leading national construction management firm, along with Gensler architects, completed the fit-out of Boston Properties, Inc.’s new corporate headquarters in the Prudential Tower. In keeping with Boston Properties, Inc.’s corporate philosophy to design and operate their buildings in the most efficient, cost conscious and thoughtful manner, the space was designed and constructed to receive LEED® – Corporate Interiors Certification.
The 80,000 square foot space, which occupies three floors in the Prudential Tower, aligns with Boston Properties, Inc.’s commitment to sustainability. Shawmut, knowledgeable in green building practices having worked on many LEED certified projects and recently completing the building-out the fifth floor of their own headquarters to meet LEED standards, was a clear choice of construction manager for this project. The Boston Properties, Inc. project included comprehensive logistics planning to ensure that delivery of materials ran smoothly within the highly trafficked building, garage, and lobby. The 14 week schedule included procurement and installation of high-end finishes and the scope of work included the installation of a backlit graphic wall in the elevator lobby, two interconnecting stairs with stone feature walls, clear story perimeter glass offices, and a complex data center. Having completed work on over 12 floors in the Tower, Shawmut’s knowledge of the building’s logistics and expectations of Boston Properties, Inc. made them a good fit for the project.
“Shawmut has consistently stepped up and delivered us the best in service on some of our more complex projects, so they have continued to be one of our obvious choices,” says Mark Denman, Boston Properties, Inc.’s Vice President of Construction.
Shawmut recently wrapped up another green project for Boston Properties in Waltham at 77 CityPoint, a LEED Silver Pre-certified office building. The 7,000 square foot corporate fit-out of Administaff’s Boston-area office incorporated the recycling of 89% of construction waste, low VOC paints and finishes, flooring materials that were delivered from within 500 miles of the site, indoor air quality control with all duct-work sealed through installation to minimize contaminants, and maximization of natural light infiltration. The project is currently in review for LEED Silver Certification.
Shawmut also recently completed the renovation of the Prudential Tower Lobby for Boston Properties.
