Boston, MA – August 23, 2007 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a $700 million national construction management firm, recently completed the construction of Hard Rock Café’s new location in Boston’s Faneuil Hall. The 16,000 square foot restaurant is located at 22-24 Clinton Street and includes three dining areas, two bars, a retail store, and a live music stage. The interior features Zildjian brand (a Massachusetts-based company) cymbal walls behind the bars, simulated stage lighting, and an impressive collection of rock and roll memorabilia. Shawmut, along with architect Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc., completed the project on a fast-track schedule of just 19 weeks despite challenges posed by the site including difficult under slab and structural slab work. The grand opening ceremony for the location was held on July 2 and was attended by employees of Hard Rock International and Shawmut Design and Construction, as well as celebrities including Blue Man Group, Jordan Knight, Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC, and the New England Patriots Cheerleaders. Mayor Menino was also on-hand to give a speech and proclaim it Hard Rock Café day in Boston. The event was punctuated by the smashing of 71 Gibson-donated guitars to commemorate the opening of the first Hard Rock in 1971. The Boston location is the twelfth restaurant that Shawmut Design and Construction has completed for Hard Rock. “It’s a terrific partnership that we’ve established. The experience of working with Shawmut has been second to none. They are a world-class organization that sees a project through in its entirety” said Larry Brakefield, Director of Operations – Hard Rock International. About Shawmut |
