Boston, MA — July 18, 2007 — Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a $700 million national construction management firm, recently hired Director of Safety John Neil to lead the company’s comprehensive safety program.
Neil joins Shawmut after a 20-year tenure at Liberty Mutual where, after earning his BS in Industrial Technology from UMASS - Lowell, he began his career as a Loss Prevention Consultant. He later received his MBA from Clark University and rose through the ranks to become Practice Leader and Director – Construction at Liberty Mutual. Neil was responsible for leading and supporting National Market Loss Prevention operations in construction, transportation, and energy industries. He provided risk management and customized safety service plans for some of the country’s largest projects including the World Trade Center Emergency Clean-up effort as well as the $1 billion UPS Global Air Hub Expansion in Louisville, KY. Neil is also very active in the construction and safety industries and is an American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Professional Member, a member of the Association of General Contractors (AGC) National Safety Committee, and a member of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) A10 Committee – Construction and Demolition Operations.
Shawmut has brought in Neil to bolster the company’s already effective safety program, which has posted some impressive safety figures in recent years. “Shawmut is known for providing world class client service. One of my goals as Director of Safety is to provide the leadership and direction that will extend that reputation to include world class safety performance,” said Neil. To achieve this, Neil plans to continue to foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement as well as create a culture of safety that crosses all levels and disciplines within the company.
