Shawmut Completes Construction of Landmarc Restaurant in New York City's Time Warner Center

Boston, MA––May 11, 2007— Shawmut Design and Construction, a $700 million national construction management firm, recently completed construction of Landmarc, Chef Marc Murphy’s third New York City restaurant. The modern bistro, which occupies a 10,000 square foot space on the third floor of the Time Warner Center, features an inviting dining area that opens into the shopping center, allowing passers-by to experience the restaurant’s highly stylized look and feel and inviting all to enter. Shawmut teamed with Murphy, architect Robert Pierpont and Clodagh Design to complete the project in just 22 weeks.

To execute Murphy’s concept, Shawmut and Clodagh built a dining area with seating for up to 250 separated from the main shopping center corridor by a rebar ‘forest,’ a large curved bar with a central wine tower, and a ‘Park Room’ overlooking New York City’s Central Park. To achieve a modern industrial feel, the team incorporated two private dining rooms with glass garage doors as partitions and accents throughout the space such as blue steel metal finishes, a faux rebar ceiling and dark wood flooring.

Murphy was actively involved in the project, from design through construction, and offered experienced guidance ranging from the width of a communal table to the location and height of the main grill – a visual focal point located behind the bar.

Shawmut has extensive experience building in the Time Warner Center, having constructed Bouchon Bakery, Per Se, Masa & Bar Masa, Davidoff, and most recently Porter House New York. With Shawmut’s in-depth knowledge of the site, the team completed the project on a fast-track schedule while limiting disruption to diners and shoppers in the elegant building.

“The success of the Landmarc project illustrates the tremendous success a building team can have when all parties work closely together,” said Brian Stys, vice president of the Restaurant Group at Shawmut Design and Construction. “Shawmut was excited to have the opportunity to work with Clodagh and make Marc Murphy’s restaurant vision a reality.”

Shawmut’s Restaurant Group builds nationally-recognized restaurants such as New York City’s Nobu 57 and Geoffrey Zakarian’s Country in the Carlton Hotel, as well as themed and national concept restaurants including The Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Legal Sea Foods, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, and McCormick & Schmick’s.
