Boston, MA and Providence, RI – August 10, 2007 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com) announced today that construction is underway on a major renovation project at The Moses Brown School, a 224-year old independent, college-preparatory school on a 33-acre campus in Providence, R.I. This significant project adds to Shawmut’s roster of academic clients and continues its strong momentum of securing more work in the growing Rhode Island market.
Shawmut, with architect Rhinebeck Architecture & Planning PC, is renovating the historic West Middle House, an older facility at the heart of campus that houses the middle school academic teams and the all-school cafeteria. The renovation involves selective demolition work, site work, concrete and masonry, rough and finish carpentry, fireproofing, aluminum entrances and windows, interior finishes, food service equipment installation, plumbing, HVAC and electrical.
When completed, the building will provide the middle school facility with state-of-the-art teaching spaces, including smart classrooms, breakout spaces, and faculty advisor offices on three floors, one for each of the middle school academic teams.

Founded in 1784, the highly-regarded Moses Brown School is one of the oldest independent schools in the country. The college-preparatory, Quaker school enrolls 796 girls and boys, in nursery through grade 12.
