New York, NY—October 5, 2006—Shawmut Design and Construction, a $600 million national construction management firm, has recently completed the construction of Porter House New York. The project is the latest restaurant of renowned chef Michael Lomonaco and his partners, Kenneth Himmel and Related Urban Development. The restaurant marks the sixth completed Shawmut project at The Restaurant and Bar Collection at Time Warner Center, with the construction of Marc Murphy’s Landmarc currently underway on the Center’s third floor.
Designed by Jeffery Beers International, the 10,000 square foot Porter House New York is located on the fourth floor of the Time Warner Center and includes a main dining room, an elevated dining area, a private dining room, and bar and lounge space. The restaurant’s interior features rich millwork, wood paneled walls, hardwood flooring, decorative glass, and a cherry veneer beamed ceiling. In addition to interior renovations, the project team also created a new glass and millwork storefront that showcases the restaurant’s bar and lounge.
To ensure that Porter House would remain on its fast-track schedule, the project team completed the restaurant in phases. By performing a waterproofing rehabilitation of the kitchen area at the beginning of construction, Shawmut enabled the restaurant’s staff to begin back-of-house preparations while the project team constructed the dining and lounge areas. This strategic scheduling saved the project team and the client valuable time as they prepared for Porter House New York’s grand opening.
Shawmut Design and Construction has extensive experience building in the Time Warner Center, having completed Bouchon Bakery, Stone Rose, per se, Masa & Bar Masa, and Davidoff. This familiarity with the Time Warner Center, along with the phasing of construction, proved invaluable for the project team as they were able to successfully complete Porter House New York on a condensed schedule in time for pre-opening and opening functions.
