Another Shawmut Commercial Project Receives LEED Certification
Boston, MA – September 30, 2009 – Shawmut Design and Construction , a leading national construction management firm, recently completed work on yet another LEED® Certified Platinum project. The work was done for architecture and design firm ADD Inc at their 311 Summer Street, Boston, Massachusetts headquarters, and received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Commercial Interior Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). ADD Inc's offices are the first Architecture and Design studio space in Massachusetts to receive Platinum certification, and one of only a handful of LEED® Platinum Certified Corporate Interior projects in the entire state.
Balancing the client's desire for a sustainable and efficient space with the historical significance of the neighborhood, posed considerable challenges for the Shawmut team. The building which dates back to the early 1900s was renovated and restored, resulting in 66,000 square-feet of green office and retail space.The first step in this process featured the use of both new local and sustainable materials, as well as recycling of as much existing material as possible. Efficiencies were also realized through water conservation measure in all bathroom facilities, the creation of multiple zones focused on increasing natural light and heat gain, and extensive construction waste recycling.
Shawmut continues to lead the way in Green Construction in Boston and beyond and are passionately involved with numerous projects designed and constructed in compliance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) standards, and have a large and ever growing number of staff members that are LEED Accredited Professionals.
