Boston, November 7, 2005—Shawmut Design and Construction today announced that it recently completed construction of Ruth’s Chris Steak House at Boston’s Old City Hall, located at 45 School Street. In just 20 weeks, the former home of Maison Robert underwent a comprehensive renovation, leaving only the building’s shell, floors, and a few load-bearing walls. The project included installation of two new kitchens, new bathrooms and state of the art life -safety and M/E/P systems to bring the restaurant up to the highest industry standards.
Dave Cattell, Chief of Development for Ruth’s Chris believes that the Boston – Old City Hall location provides an unequalled combination of a site of great historical significance to the City of Boston and our nation, along with the pure majesty of architectural genius from an earlier era in the design of the building.
“Working with the Shawmut team was a rewarding experience throughout the entire process, “ said Cattell. “Shawmut, from top to bottom, achieved the critical balance of the right people, with the right attitude, focused on the shared vision of our privilege to be building something very special in their hometown. I knew from the beginning that we wouldn’t be disappointed, these folks are positioned in the top tier of their profession for a reason.” “We’ll do business again,” Cattell added.
The restaurant's design incorporates high-end finishes with preservation of much of the original wood finishes, crown moldings, plaster finishes, barrel-vaulted ceilings, and archways. The 13,000 sf restaurant has seating for 270 people and room for 140 in an outdoor seating area. Broadmoor Design Group of New Orleans, Louisiana was the architect of the project.
“Having built five Ruth’s Chris Steak Houses across the country, we were delighted to build this great restaurant in one of Boston’s premier landmarks,” said Brian Stys, vice president of Shawmut’s Restaurant Group.
