Shawmut Names William Hughes President

Boston, MA––June 27, 2007— Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a $700 million national construction management firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, announced the promotion of William Hughes to the role of President. In addition, Hughes will retain his position of Chief Operating Officer. Tom Goemaat will remain the CEO and will continue to sit on Shawmut’s Board of Directors.

The move was announced today by CEO Tom Goemaat, who cited Shawmut’s need to strengthen the firm’s management structure to take advantage of continued strong growth and success. Shawmut projects 2007 revenues to be $780 million, an increase of nearly 33 percent over 2006, while staff headcount recently surpassed 800 professionals. Shawmut’s 2006 revenues were $587.7 million, an 18% percent increase over 2005. This growth comes as the firm completes numerous significant projects across the US, including work with The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Apple, Inc., Louis Vuitton, Town Sports International, Harvard University, Yale University, and Boston Properties, Inc., among other clients.

“When Bill joined Shawmut in 2000, he immediately made an impact in this cycle of growth,” said Tom Goemaat, Shawmut’s CEO. “He has added immeasurable value in all areas of our company. We are pleased to have him apply his considerable skills and passion for excellence in his new role as President and COO.”

In his role as President, Hughes will oversee the development of Shawmut’s staff and ensure the company’s unique culture is sustained and strengthened. He will help the company deliver on its corporate goals as well as maintains its smart, focused growth. As COO, Hughes will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of Shawmut and its business groups.

“The opportunity for me to be a part of growing and building this company has been so rewarding,” said Hughes. “I look forward to helping us continue our success as we grow beyond the $1 billion threshold.”

Tom Goemaat will remain Shawmut’s CEO and spearhead the company’s efforts to develop into a “next generation” construction management leader. He will also remain active in the firm’s company-wide initiatives, such as those focused on diversity and leadership development. Goemaat will continue to represent the firm on its Board of Directors and throughout its business communities.

Shawmut’s founder and Chairman of the Board, Jim Ansara, said: “The work Tom and Bill have done to grow and develop this company has been amazing. What this company has become, while still staying true to its roots as a customer-focused, employee-driven firm, has far surpassed my expectations. I am proud to see Bill continue the legacy that Tom and I created, and I feel confident the future of the company is well protected.”
