Douglas J. Lareau Appointed Chief Legal Counsel

Construction Firm Adds In-house Legal Expertise

Boston, MA– Shawmut Design and Construction recently appointed Douglas J. Lareau as Chief Legal Counsel. The move solidifies the construction company's in-house legal and risk management expertise.

"We're pleased to add Doug to our team of experts in the industry," said William Hughes, President. "Doug's experience in handling complex contractual issues with numerous Fortune 500 companies, coupled with his background in finance and high-tech give him a well-rounded approach in working with Shawmut's diverse client base."

Lareau's hire is one of two strategic positions that Shawmut has recently announced, including hiring a Chief Financial Officer. According to Hughes, both reflect the Company's forward thinking in the midst of what is considered a down market in construction. "We are bringing in the right people to move this company forward in a timely, proactive way," continued Hughes.

Lareau is part of Shawmut's senior executive team, responsible for driving the conception, development and implementation of strategic legal and risk architecture. He will oversee the construction company's legal direction, vision and strategy to support business objectives companywide.

Prior to joining Shawmut, Lareau served as Assistant General Counsel in Technology and Operations at Honeywell International in Morristown, NJ. Prior to that, he served as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Contracts at Honeywell's Minneapolis, MN division.

Lareau also served as an associate attorney at two Minneapolis law firms in the commercial litigation area, and was a Lieutenant/Attorney for the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps representing the Navy in a ten-state region before State and Federal agencies.

Lareau is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and Tulane School of Law in New Orleans, LA. He has also attended Harvard Law School in Cambridge, MA and the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, IL. He is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Minnesota, Illinois and the US District of Courts of Minnesota and Colorado.
