Boston, MA – Shawmut Design and Construction, located at 560 Harrison Avenue in Boston, celebrated the topping off of the Flanagan Campus Center at Wentworth Institute of Technology on Friday, November 19, by raising a commemorative beam signed by members of the Wentworth community into place atop a new addition.

The Flanagan Campus Center project features an 8,500 square foot addition and a 40,000 square foot renovation to the existing building. The space will serve as a hub of student life, and includes a fitness center, radio station, recreation center, dining hall, bookstore, meditation center, and meeting spaces.

“The students who are at Wentworth today will be the leaders of the construction industry tomorrow,” said Tom Goemaat, CEO of Shawmut Design and Construction. “Shawmut is pleased to play a key role in a project that will enhance the student experience for some of the best and brightest young minds in our community.”

Construction of the Flanagan Campus Center began in May, and is scheduled to be completed in August 2012. The building is named for alumnus William H. Flanagan, Machine Construction & Tool Design Class of 1951.
