Sustainable Construction Best Practices

We have worked with many clients to simply incorporate sustainable construction best practices and strategies into their projects.

Some of the sustainable construction best practices and methods we have experience with include:

* Natural Ventilation
* Wastewater Management
* Heat Recovery
* Thermal Envelope
* Radiant Heating
* Storm Water Management
* Daylighting
* Grey Water Recycling
* Landscaping – native and non-irrigated
* Green Roofs

In addition, it is our goal to recycle at least 50% of sustainable construction and demolition waste on job sites – and in the future strive for 100%.  Our sustainable construction project teams also use materials such as low emitting paints, carpet adhesive, and other products with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to promote healthier indoor environments for you, your employees and surrounding neighbors.

Shawmut is a company that believes in sustainable construction best practices and green building – not just on our job sites, but in the office as well.  We practice what we preach, and our corporate culture is centered on acting more environmentally conscious.  We encourage employees to recycle paper; cans, glass, batteries, lamps, florescent lights, and other items throughout the office.  And our efforts have paid off.  On a quarterly basis we send out reports to employees so they can see the effect recycling has on the environment.  On average, we recycle about 4 tons of paper per month which equates to saving more than 80 trees.
