BOSTON, MA—City of Boston officials on Thursday unveiled the new Bruce C. Bolling Building in Roxbury's Dudley Square, a prominent building that's the future home of Boston Public Schools central offices.

The renovated municipal space — formerly known as the Ferdinand Building— is expected to house 500 city employees and have 18,000 square feet of street-level retail, a project that had long been a vision of late Mayor Thomas Menino.

The building was renamed in honor of Bruce Bolling, the first black president of the Boston City Council, last year, the Boston Globe reported.

The new Bruce C. Bolling municipal building was designed by Mecanoo and Sasaki Associates, with Shawmut Design and Construction serving as the construction manager at risk and PMA Consultants serving as project manager.
