Shawmut Completes New Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School in Pawtucket, RI

Shawmut joined the City of Pawtucket and the Pawtucket School Department to celebrate the grand opening of the new Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by state and city leaders, school officials, students, families, and community members.

The new Baldwin Elementary, located at 50 Whitman Street, represents the culmination of a collaborative, community-driven project supported by the Pawtucket City Council, Pawtucket School Committee, and project partners including Shawmut Design and Construction, Colliers Project Leaders, Torrado Architects/JLA, and the Rhode Island Department of Education. The school is designed to provide an inclusive, innovative learning environment for generations of Pawtucket students.

“Delivering Baldwin Elementary from concept to completion has been an incredible honor,” said Chris Maury, Head of Preconstruction, New England Region / Head of Rhode Island Operations at Shawmut. “This state-of-the-art facility is built to serve students and families for decades to come, and we’re proud to have partnered with the City of Pawtucket and our project team to bring it to life.”

“Seeing the bright, smiling faces of the kids and the passionate dedication of the teachers was truly remarkable,” said Donald R. Grebien, Mayor of the City of Pawtucket. “I wish the students and teachers an exciting and enriching year in this tremendous facility. As Mayor, I will continue to invest in providing our students and teachers with modern facilities that promote academic excellence.”

The new school features cutting-edge classroom spaces, collaborative learning areas, and infrastructure designed to support both academic achievement and the emotional well-being of the Baldwin community.

“Baldwin Elementary represents our shared commitment to ensuring every child in Pawtucket has access to an exceptional education in a safe, inspiring environment,” said Randy Buck, Interim Superintendent of Pawtucket Schools. “Today is just the beginning.”

Baldwin is the latest Shawmut project for the Rhode Island Department of Education. Also underway are the ground-up $326 million new Pawtucket High School at the former McCoy Stadium site; renovations and additions to Martin Middle and Waddington Elementary schools in East Providence; all-new Greystone and Whelan Elementary schools in North Providence; and renovations to Eden Park in Cranston. Shawmut also recently completed renovations to Hope High School’s historic auditorium in Providence.
