Shawmut has been awarded the Social Justice Label 2.0 from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), a global nonprofit organization committed to advancing communities that are socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative. This distinct honor reinforces Shawmut’s commitment toward essential diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work and dedication to building an inclusive, diverse workplace.
Awarded through ILFI’s social justice self-disclosure program, Just, the Social Justice Label 2.0 helps organizations optimize policies that improve workplace social equity and employee engagement. To achieve this distinction, organizations disclose policies, procedures, and initiatives, which are then evaluated on six organization-and employee-related indicators: diversity and inclusion, equity, employee health, employee benefits, stewardship, and purchasing and supply chain. Highlights from Shawmut’s Just Label include:
-
- Strong employee engagement.
- Above-average employee benefits that cater to both physical and mental health needs.
- Commitment to stewardship and charitable giving.
- Great employee training and education offerings.
- Equitable purchasing practices.
While there is still more work to be done, becoming a Just organization is a vital step in Shawmut’s DEI journey and commitment to driving an innovative and people-first culture. As a 100% employee-owned company, Shawmut’s people-first approach fosters a culture of belonging, where everyone, from any background, can bring their best selves to work. By investing in equity across the organization—which starts at the top with dedication from the entire executive leadership team—Shawmut’s team is diverse in people, ideas, and experiences.
The Just label will serve as a benchmark and roadmap for Shawmut to further enhance human resources, policies, programs, and practices; deepen the level of employee engagement; help continue to build a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion; and expand its commitment to social justice and equity across the organization. It is also an important alignment of ensuring the buildings the firm creates mirror the values in the neighborhoods and communities where we live and work.
As a Living Future Member, Shawmut is committed to building a better tomorrow and recently completed HMTX Industries’ global headquarters, which is pursuing the Living Building Challenge—the world’s most stringent green building rating system.
