Shawmut has been named a 2026 Best Place to Work by the South Florida Business Journal for the second consecutive year. Ranking #13 in the medium company category, Shawmut’s Miami office was recognized for its commitment to workplace belonging and career development—priorities that fuel strong business performance and meaningful partnerships across the region.
As a 100% employee-owned company, Shawmut fosters a people-first culture grounded in ownership, proactive solution-making, and forward-thinking leadership. Every team member is invested in the company’s success and is dedicated to delivering the best experience for clients, partners, and local communities. Shawmut’s culture of care is guided by its core values—excellence, safety, ownership, and people—which inform every decision. Through safety programs that address physical and mental health, talent development initiatives that cultivate inclusive and empathetic leaders, and tailored tools, resources, and guidance for employee-owners to build their skills and grow in their roles, Shawmut creates an environment where everyone feels empowered to show up as their authentic selves and reach their fullest potential.
“Engaged, supported, and valued employees are the backbone of business success and essential to delivering a better building experience for our clients and the communities we serve,” said Alexis Leal, head of Florida at Shawmut. “This incredible recognition reinforces the importance of the culture we intentionally build every day, and I can’t thank enough all of our people for the dedication they show to our projects and one another each day.”
This recognition comes as Shawmut’s South Florida team grew by 20% to close out 2025, reflecting continued investment in the region and an expanding market presence. Alongside this growth, the firm has strengthened its pipeline of high-impact projects, including the luxury residential community Town Vineland in Orlando, Excel Miami multifamily tower in the city’s Arts & Entertainment District, and the 12-story, mixed-use 2000 Wynwood project in the Wynwood Arts District.
This momentum is reflected in recent recognitions, including ENR ranking Shawmut among the top 10 commercial contractors in the Southeast, and the South Florida Business Journal naming Shawmut one of the top 20 largest general contractors in the region.
The honor also adds to Shawmut’s more than 100 Best Place to Work awards across its 15 offices nationwide. Most recently, Shawmut was named one of the nation’s Best Workplaces by FORTUNE® Magazine, #2 on the Fortune Best Place to Work in Construction list, as well as a Best Place to Work for Women and Parents.
