The renovation to Brooklyn Public Library’s Canarsie Library will double the amount of programming space for the community while creating new areas for children, teens, and adults as well as a flexible meeting room, maker space, recording studio, and second-floor outdoor terrace. The updated library will span 10,000 square feet and support programming needs for data-based study and provide easy access to a wide range of educational resources for community members of all ages. The new Canarsie Library will be one of the first mass timber public buildings in New York City, with a cross-laminated timber structural system. The new building will also provide all-new heating, cooling, and electrical infrastructure, as well as sustainable features include on-site stormwater management, solar panels, and repurposed materials.
