Brown University’s state-of-the-art athletic facility blends modern amenities with architectural nods to both the campus’s historic structures and Providence’s classical industrial heritage. Featuring an ornate brick façade and a copper roof, the building houses a wide range of fitness spaces, including a natatorium, strength and conditioning areas, dance studios, and new locker and shower rooms. The Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, a 51,000-square-foot addition with an Olympic-size swimming pool, is connected to the main building by an underground walkway. It also boasts the largest hybrid solar-powered electrical and heating installation in the U.S. The project, which required careful planning and coordination of campus utilities, achieved LEED Gold certification for its sustainability features.
