Established in 1884, The Grolier Club is the nation’s oldest and largest society dedicated to book and graphic arts. The Club’s current Georgian Revival-style building, designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and constructed in 1917, has remained largely unchanged for over a century. Shawmut was entrusted with upgrading the building’s exhibition and architectural features, enhancing accessibility, and optimizing space usage—all while preserving its historic charm. The renovation included a new ADA lift, upgraded exhibition cases, a reimagined railing system with rolling ladders, and a new receptionist office. These enhancements were completed while the building remained fully operational, ensuring minimal disruption to its daily functions.
