At Walmart’s Home Office, one of the largest mass timber developments in the U.S., Shawmut installed more than 1 million of the 2.4 million square feet of mass timber used. The team worked on 17 projects, including four ground-up, hybrid cross-laminated timber office buildings. Each of the office buildings is uniquely designed with custom, purpose-driven amenities such as coffee shops, quiet work areas, meeting rooms, display spaces for vendors, and technology hubs.
The 90,000 square-foot, ground-up AC Hotel Bentonville by Marriott has 153 rooms to accommodate visiting staff and guests. The five-story building features a rooftop lounge, meeting and event space, and a bar on the lobby level.
Next to the hotel is the 3,000 square-foot Welcome Center – a glass-walled gallery and reception area that is topped with a recreation of an original Walmart sign paying homage to the company’s long history in the region.
Shawmut’s scope also included sitework and landscape for all these elements, and the completion of 10 parking deck enhancements to add retail and dining spaces to the staff parking garages. The projects were built on an active, multi-GC site, requiring detailed schedule coordination and heightened security measures with not just the client, but the other builders.
