As part of its aggressive growth plan to increase market share in large-scale projects and expand into new sectors, Shawmut has hired Julio Cruz as a project executive in South Florida.

In his role, Cruz will leverage his 25 years of experience to lead large, ground-up projects and develop teams of experts to increase Shawmut’s market share of projects with substantial scope and complexity. Expansion in the region, particularly Miami, Broward, and West Palm Beach, is a key driver in Shawmut’s ten-year strategic growth plan. As the market continues to experience rapid development, the firm is focused on leveraging its decades-long experience in South Florida to continue to drive its share in commercial, education, retail, healthcare, and hospitality markets.

“Julio’s roots in South Florida construction coupled with his commitment to exceptional client service made him the ideal addition to our team,” said Alexis Leal, head of Florida, Shawmut. “His technical expertise in projects ranging from ground-up high-rises to complex renovations helps round out our talent bench as we look to the future.”

Prior to joining Shawmut, Cruz served as a project executive for several large, ENR-ranked construction management firms in South Florida, building complex projects ranging in size, scope, and value—including millions of square feet in education, high-rise condominiums, multi-family, and hospitality. Cruz is a Florida certified general contractor, LEED AP, ASHE certified, and holds a bachelor’s in architectural design and  master’s in building construction from the University of Florida.

Building in South Florida for more than 25 years, Shawmut’s project portfolio, spanning hundreds of projects and multiple sectors, includes the Power Design building in the Miami Design District, Ransom Everglades School STEM Building, and the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina event center.
