NEW YORK, NY - Shawmut Design and Construction today announced the completion of Tourneau’s third Manhattan location at Sixth Avenue & West 42nd Street. The newest location of the largest multi-brand watch retailer in the U.S. underwent a 3,000 square-foot fit-out that allows it to house more than 17 premier luxury watch brands and feature specialized boutiques for Rolex, Cartier, and Jaeger-LeCoultre, among others.

Shawmut’s scope of work spanned 18 weeks and involved extensive storefront work that included the installation of stone, glass, and 14 clocks. The team also assembled the store’s centerpiece: a GFRG ceiling dome with silver leaf application. Team members drilled individual holes, the width of a single strand of hair, then threaded more than 550 fiber optic lights through the holes to complete the piece in three days.

Every element was custom-created for the store, including the rounded Makassar ebony and bronze display cases that Shawmut installed. Nine millworkers worked on the individual boutique sections and displays at the same time, coordinating with subcontractors to avoid spacing issues.

“We were honored when Tourneau approached us to work on a third location,” said William Pisani, Shawmut vice president of retail. “It is a testament to Shawmut’s expertise and ability to exceed client expectations that we can count such a prestigious retailer as one of our repeat clients, which comprise 80% of our business.”

The team worked with designer Kenneth Park Architects to complete the project, which was commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 16, 2015, Tourneau’s 115th anniversary. This Tourneau completion represents the latest in Shawmut’s watch brand projects, with recently completed stores including A. Lange & Söhne, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Rolex, Seiko, Tag Heuer, Cartier, and Hublot.
