CEO Les Hiscoe was named to the National Safety Council’s 2023 CEOs Who “Get It” list. Only presented to seven leaders, this national recognition from America’s leading nonprofit safety advocate celebrates those who go the extra mile to protect employees both on and off the job.

The only construction leader honored, Les is recognized for creating a safety culture at Shawmut fueled by innovation and continuous improvement, powered by technology, and focused on total worker health—encompassing both mental and physical health. This work includes:

  • Establishing safety as a business imperative to drive a sense of ownership, with buy-in and engagement from every employee.
  • Implementing leading-edge technology to achieve a proactive, preventive, and predictive safety program. Most notably, a customized safety scoring platform that identifies project safety risks by pulling jobsite data from all technologies and platforms—helping prevent incidents before they arise.
  • Tackling off-the-job safety to proactively address the industry’s opioid crisis, mobilizing a cross-functional Opioid Task Force, supplying Narcan to all jobsites, and providing all Shawmut field and office services teams with substance use disorder training.
  • Launching an Inclusion Learning and Awareness Plan that includes inclusive management training and how to understand and interrupt unconscious biases to ensure an inclusive environment.
