NEWPORT BEACH, CA—Shawmut announced today the completion of the first free-standing retail space for edgy cosmetics retailer Urban Decay. Located in Newport Beach’s upscale Fashion Island Shopping Center, this 1,000 square foot store was completed within 12 weeks and will serve as a model for forthcoming locations as the brand expands its standalone retail presence.

The Shawmut team’s construction of this new location involved building a custom foyer, installation of six makeup stations, and a UD Lounge encompassing an in-store coffee shop, interactive photo booth, and “Dude Station” where men can relax as their shopping companions peruse Urban Decay’s offerings. The Shawmut team applied its signature careful attention to detail and closely managed all long-lead items, particularly the store’s main design feature, a 15-foot stainless steel tree sculpture and the store’s 50-point lipstick custom light design.

“We were honored to play an integral role in this milestone for such an innovative beauty brand,” said William Pisani, vice president of Shawmut Design and Construction. “We fully recognized the importance of completing Urban Decay’s first standalone retail space in a timely manner, so our team worked to meet all deadlines without losing focus on quality in every last detail.”

In addition to procuring the store’s custom design features, Shawmut also installed an extensive A/V system throughout the store. The edgy cosmetics brand’s new location also features custom stone and stainless steel finishes and locally-sourced, wide-plank wood flooring. The team incorporated Urban Decay’s distinct “beauty with an edge” aesthetic down to every last detail, including custom lipstick replica door handles throughout the store.

Shawmut’s work on the Urban Decay store represents the latest in its extensive work in the retail industry throughout Southern California and one of many projects completed for high-end retail brands nationwide. Shawmut has built retail locations nationwide for national beauty retail brands including NARS, Sephora, and Victoria’s Secret.
