Welcome to Owner Impacts, a series dedicated to showcasing innovations, solutions, and leadership driven by our employee-owners—and powered by our people-first culture.

In celebration of National Intern Day, we asked some of our current employee-owners, who started their Shawmut journey as interns, to provide advice for current interns. From the skills needed for long-term success to how to make the most out of an internship, here’s what they said.

Shawmut Intern Experience:

  • 2016: Project Management Intern, Boston
  • 2017: Site Operations Intern, New York

What advice would you give to a current intern to stand out at during their internship at Shawmut?

“Work to strengthen relationships with others outside of your assigned project team and manager. Doing this gave me valuable exposure to other projects and departments. I toured over 15 jobsites during my internship in the field, which help me gain additional knowledge I wouldn’t have been exposed to otherwise—I even got to meet Tom Hanks at one of our jobsites.”
